Edith's First Work Commute
As I sit here with frozen fingers, numb face and thawing toes, I will say that the ride to work this morning on the recumbent was not only exciting, but interesting. My legs feel great, and I am filled with euphoria. Let me tell you, it's cold out there.My route consists of a few dangerous roads, namely route 73 and 561. It's imperative that I find an alternate route.
The trouble began on route 73 where the White Horse Pike merges just outside of Atco. No one dared stop at this freak-mobile with flashing lights both fore and aft. Oh, and dont mention the huge fluorescent caution flag.
Then where 73 intersects with it's busiest place, Wawa. All I can say is that if I repeated what this guy said to me, I might have to do some time. He literally turned into the Wawa without even considering the fact that I was just on his right. Just turned in. Thankfully I have good breaks. Oh and did I fail to mention? It's all MY FAULT.
Anyway, Im here at work safe with a goal today - find an alternate route. The additional miles won't bother me, but I will say this.
Why are you all in a hurry to get to work?

Marilyn the recumbent just about done.
I took Marilyn on her maiden ride this morning.
After cabling the brakes, and rear derailleur, I took her off the trainer to see what she had to offer. I must say that the steering is VERY different from Edith (our first recumbent), it's not bad, just takes a little getting used to. The front wheel is just about "under" you so its a little different on the balance side.
The front shifter didnt fit, nor was the V brake sufficient in the tension department. So, after a few parts, and seat finishing, she'll be ready for her first distance ride. I would certainly suggest road tires, but for now, these are fun to play with.
Enjoy her, Ross, for we will do many recumbent rides this year!

We elected to use stem shifters. They work better than thumb shifters!
Ready for Springtime RIDE!
I added the new shifters and a world of difference it made! WOW! It's shifing clean without skipping or hopping. She's quiet!
The only noise im suffering from now is the caution flag. The staff is rattling inside the seat post. The only way i know to fix that is to cut it down and clamp it tighter. Just threw a fresh coat of paint on the staff.
I'll try to get the kids to take some video of me... as per "crash's" request.

Edith has a date with Maaco!
Edith has a date with Maaco this week to get a professional paint & bake job! I have to strip, grind and prime the frame this weekend to be sure it's ready. They do 1/2 cars every day and Walt from Maaco said for a small fee, he'll paint and bake the frame for me! YAY!
We're unsure of the color. My prefrerence is pretty lax, but White, Silver, Black or Red will work just fine for me since he's charging me so little.
NEED SKATEBOARD WHEELS
Does anyone have an old skateboard laying around that they don't care about? I need the wheels from them. I can't seem to find the old solid (not coated) wheels that they used to make. Actually, I need two sets :) The wheels are used as chain idlers on my recumbent bike. I bought a few, and they are just not working out.
